Summer event 2021

The sun finally came out of hiding in time for smart/tasking’s long-awaited Summer Event. On 23 June, Guildford and the surrounding countryside were treated to the perfect summer’s day – ideal for a full afternoon of business discussions and networking, followed by a tour of a local vineyard and evening barbeque.

Our get-together kicked off at noon, with the leadership team sharing a detailed update on some of the terrific work that smart/tasking has delivered over the past year. It was truly inspiring to hear the tangible difference that colleagues have been making, from cost optimisation and sales through to our increasingly popular Newsdesk-as-a-Service. Our resourcing and project delivery team have seen particular successes. A new Expertise-on-Demand account has resulted in smart/tasking supply 7 contractors to one of our clients (other suppliers failed to source the right expertise). On a separate note, our presence has now grown to 8 contractors, and we are working on developing new accounts in that organisation, too. The next 12 months are looking equally exciting, with more challenges and more service offerings added into what is already a very compelling mix.

Then it was off to the beautiful Albury estate: a fantastic gem tucked away on the outskirts of Guildford, whose fame as a biodynamic vineyard is growing all the time. Owner Nick Wenman and his team made us incredibly welcome, and we were treated to a full tour of the vineyard with explanations about the soil, harvesting, and wine-making techniques. All followed, naturally, with a sampling of some of their fantastic produce!

After all that talking and tasting, we’d built up quite an appetite – so it was with much gusto that we tucked into a delicious barbeque, laid on for us in style by the staff at The Harbour Hotel, Guildford. With the sun setting over the rooftops, there was still plenty of time to chat with colleagues and reflect on a fantastic day – and a fantastic year to come. After almost 18 months of working virtually, it was genuinely lovely to be with colleagues in person – whilst being safe and respectful of distance, and knowing that everyone was looking out for one another. We hope that more teams get to do the same in the weeks to come.
